Senior Thesis Part 3a: Robot Dress

For my third piece (part a) I draped a different style of dress, a fitted tube dress which was cut on the bias (45 degree angle) to give it that max stretch. With this one I wanted to make a dress that transformed the body into a robot. Using a fitted dress I wanted to cover it with readouts and dials to give the impression that they could read the levels of the wearer and also switches and buttons that would give the impression that the wearer could be controlled like a machine. After drawing a sketch I drew these elements in Adobe Illustrator, printed them on fabric, cut them out, and sewed them to the dress. I incorporated a larger on/off switch on the back to act as a master switch for added effect. Beep Boop.

Senior Thesis Part 2: Birthday Cake Dress

For my second piece I draped another dress but instead of using the dress as a canvas for fabric drawing I wanted to transform the entire dress into an object. In this case, a birthday cake!! Candles, frosting, a 2-tone bow pin, and a mini party hat! The whole shebang. I designed a sprinkle fabric that I got printed and used for the skirt of the dress under the icing details. I made pockets in the sides of the dress for these really awesome plastic balloons that complete the birthday look. The inside is lined with white satin and there are 2 layers of blue tulle in the skirt that give it some volume. I would have to say this is my favorite piece in the collection because who doesn't want to look like a birthday cake? Honestly.

Senior Thesis Part 1: Hot Air Balloon Dress

The first part of my senior thesis was a Hot Air Balloon dress. In this dress I explored drawing with fabric. I draped this simple tank dress, cut out fun shapes to embellish it with, and then made it happen! I also made a sweet mini crown as an accessory.
