Neon Acrylic + Watercolor Paintings

Sometimes I forget how awesome watercolors are.  After doing the topographic watercolor map series paintings I was amped to do some more painting but wanted to branch out into more abstract and nonsense as per usual.  I was also looking for a project to use some neon acrylic paint I forgot I had.  So far I have finished 3 but only two count since the 3rd was just sort of a warm up mess.  Here's the three framed:

I was going for abstract figurative and I like this style, I hope to paint more like this in the future.  Here's an in progress photo of the second painting:

I also recently participated in the Sketchbook Project's Pen Pal Painting Exchange where you get a 4" x 4" canvas to paint.  When you're done you mail it back to them along with a little postcard about yourself filled out and they match your painting with another participant's submission, swap the paintings, and send each other's paintings back to your newly matched pen pal.  Here is the painting I submitted:

Here is the wall of all of the mini painting submissions at the Brooklyn Art Library Gallery exhibition.  You can see more photos on the Sketchbook Project's flickr.

Nylon Clutch

This summer/fall I was invited to a lot of weddings.  Two of which were on the fancier side as weddings go.  After finally deciding what to wear to them I realized I didn't really have any fancy wedding appropriate bags.  And while all that I do is basically make bags I stick to mostly casual bags like backpacks, totes etc.  So here was my chance to bring my color block nylon skills to the world of clutches!  I made a simple envelope with a magnetic snap and my outfit was complete!  See the in-prog and finished photos below!

Maybe this has opened the world of more bags and cases to come!  I heard a suggestion of making something like this into an iPad case which would be pretty sweet...

Linen Knit Pants Romper

Back in June I made the ultimate summer travel outfit: a linen knit pants romper.  A little background: I was browsing Anthropologie's website when I came across this breezy colorblock jumpsuit.  I'm not sure if I would classify mixing olive solid with olive knit stripe a 'color block' but let's go with it.  This  romper looks like it would be basically the most comfortable thing ever.  Elastic knit top with a built in bra and elastic waist so that the weight of the entire garment isn't only being supported by the top elastic.  Front and back pockets on a soft linen pant although I could definitely do without the wide leg.

So I started with making a pattern for the romper which makes for easy replication later so I can have a whole wardrobe of these guys! (ha)  The project worked out quite well because I had very recently gone fabric shopping at Mood and picked out this awesome blue super soft linen as well as this oatmeal neon orange stripe knit with no perticular project in mind aside from maybe some sweatpants for the knit.  I think we can all say this was destiny and a much more color block appropriate pair than the original.

Some in progress photos:

And ta-da!!

Granted the model in the Anthro photo is probably a foot taller than me, I think the outfit still translates decently on a fun size human like myself and without the wide leg pants I'm not tripping over them when I walk.  We can mark this one off as a success!  Shortly after I wore this outfit on a flight to Chicago and was super comfy the whole time, POINT pants romper! Airline ZERO!
